Clink

I was watching Smallville recently and my 2nd favourite character (1st being Lex) of the show Lionel Luthor narated an interesting story on the origins of clinking glasses...

As it went... in times past.. there was a king surrounded by his advisors... his advisors had planned on ousting this king, and had poisoned the kings drink.. the king being a shrewd man however clinked his cup against that of his advisors... droplets of his poisoned brew landing in his advisors cups... the advisors drained their cups while the king merely sat down and observed his advisors as they one by one died a slow painful death...

From then on the gesture of lightly clinking glasses became a sign of trust.

Batman

Despite my long lived dislike towards batman, I'm actually starting to like the guy. Why the sudden change? Not that he has stopped being so pretentious and I'm so cool I only wear black, but for once his character has grown. (I'm talking about the JL series, not the movie... in the movies he showed plenty of character) In the most recent episode I watched, amusingly titled "This little piggy" Batman had to compromise his "I'm so dark and brooding" mantle for that of a singer. That’s right! Batman sang! I also probably have developed a greater affinity for the guy since he sang pretty well... good song choice too...
