Names

Well I have nothing better to do and have decided to make a list of names I like; perhaps not for me or any future children, simply names which appeal to me. Note, all the names listed are only the names which come to mind at present, but actually I like a lot more names than those listed, so if anyone’s name are missing - it doesn't necessarily mean I dislike your name. Cheers

Some weird things I just happened to stumble upon

If any of you watched 'Alexander' closely you'd have noticed that throughout the film Alexander (Colin Farrell) used his right hand. But in truth, Alexander the great was left handed. Quite a large slip up, I'd say.

Something else movie related; after watching National Treasure, I was inspired to do a little reading into the history of the independance of the US. I found it rather interesting, I'm actually thinking of taking it next semester. But thats getting off track, the reason why I mentioned the movie at all is because I just loved the style and language used in the Declaration of Independance (which the movie centralized on) Check out the declaration of independance here:

I've now come across the word 'tesserae' three times in 3 different books, written by three different authors. All three used the word to refer to something secret or hidden, but when I looked up various dictionaries and encyclopedias, there was nothing remotely connected to the context in which the word was used. For instance, the Websters dictionary termed 'tesserae' as a small tile or die, and/or an object used as a ticket or token in ancient Rome. Just thought it was slightly queer...

30hour day

As are most Malaysians, I have very BAD time management. I'm forever running late and arriving just in the nick of time... It was worse in my high school days, I’d be running out of the house with my shirt half-buttoned and my shoes in my hand, then I’d arrive at school just as the bell were to ring(well mostly before it rang).... that was the scenario I lived for the last four years of my high school life.. It was fun and I enjoyed myself, but there were many things missing from my life then which I only now realize were missing(I’ll elaborate more on what things were missing from my life at a later date)

Getting back on track, I now find that I have too few hours to fit in everything I want to do in a day… this is probably why I don’t sleep much; I try to cram in everything possible… I mean on any average day, I’d like to read, watch some TV, play some mindless games, exercise a bit, just hang out with friends and also spend sometime with the family… so how am I supposed to do all these things in a mere 24 hours ??(Excluding sleeping time)... I’ve actually had quite a few things I’ve wanted to write on, but I simply haven’t gotten down to it… hopefully now with my holidays on I’ll be able to get some of these ideas of mine on paper… that is if I am able to finish all my x’mas shopping…

Another annoying aspect of Malaysian time management; we really don’t know how to make proper plans. For instance, a couple days ago I was called in the middle of a funeral to go bowling the next day, later I called back to find out where and when… surprise, surprise it had been postponed.. Sunday comes, and I ask what time on Monday we were supposed to meet up, and I was told, “In the afternoon”… I found this answer rather amusing, but quite a waste of a 15cents, as I had to re-sms my friend to ask for an actual time frame…

Also, procrastinating!!! This is another major flaw I have… I always leave things to the last minute…More often than not, it doesn’t turn out too well, but this stems from the lazy factor, which I’m not going to get into…

Wouldn’t it be more fun to have perhaps a 30hour day? Wishful thinking on my part, no idea if something like that would actually be possible…

Okay, I’ve bored myself writing about this… my next post will hopefully be on something more interesting or at least unusual... hehe

A final bid goodbye

Today I went to the funeral of my friends mum. I didn’t know the woman well, but I knew her husband and her many sons; all of whom have been good family friends and have always been there in our time of need

I went to the funeral with a deep sense of dread; with the amount of funerals I have attended recently, I would have thought I’d be numb to the experience, but I’m not. There was once a saying; "young people think themselves immortal until reality shatters their silly notions"... this rings true every time I attend a funeral. At times like these I truly realize how short and fragile life is, and how we really need to appreciate the people around us; friends, family, even mere acquaintances

When I walked into the funeral house, I realized how meaningless words of sympathy were, not that they their selves were meaningless, but the way in which they are delivered was more of a formality and held no real feelings of sympathy or remorse... This of course is not regarding the whole populace, but a substantial number of the people gathered

Perhaps they were like me, and were simply there to offer support to their friends by their presence, and felt a hypocrite if they pretended to be more sorrowful than they truly felt. But then, there’s also a saying, "if there is love between people, and one were to weep, we would not comfort the one who weeps but weep alongside him"

No manufacturing of sympathy was required on my part, for I truly felt it. Yet, I found it hard to offer my condolences without sounding mechanical or merely following procedure, in the end I figured that a simple hug did more than any words, and that’s what I would advise to anyone who is going to any funerals-may he be someone you know or not

Perhaps my thought linger on the subject of death more often than others and that’s why I see it strange the way some merely conform to these social guidelines set forth by the generations without realizing how mechanical it is.

Well that’s all for now..

Something I find annoying

Recently, I went out with a couple of friends; just to catch up. Two other guys and a girl. Anyhow we have known each other for around 5years, and we were really close at one time

Now as to what I found annoying; every time any of us were to direct our attention to 'her', she would unconsciously pull close her sweater to cover up

First and foremost, don't wear such clothes if it makes you uncomfortable

Later, when I asked my friends about this, they found this pretty annoying too. We were kind of offended that after all that time, she thought no more of us. Not all guys are incessant skirt chasers, nor do they fawn over a little skin. But seemingly, she doesn't know that - hopefully, most do

Kinda hard to tell her differently though, can't exactly say "Hey, the other day when you were trying to cover up, well we found that annoying". So I'm gonna leave it as it is, and hope she learns from experience
