Chainfire

In conjunction with the release of Terry Goodkinds 2nd installation of the Chainfire trilogy next month, let’s have some of Terry's nicest and most interesting quotes.

#1 “If God is so powerful, can he create a rock which he cannot lift?”

#2 “The second rule is that the greatest harm can result from the best intentions. It sounds a paradox but kindness and good intentions can be an insidious path to destruction. Sometimes doing what seems right is wrong and can cause harm.”

#3 "Passion rules reason"

#4 "Your life is yours and yours alone. Rise up and live it."

#5 "People are stupid; given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it’s true, or because they are afraid it might be true."

#6 "Mind what people do, not only what they say, for deeds will betray a lie."

#7 "Talga Vassternich. Deserve Victory."

#8 "The only sovereign we can allow to rule us is logic"

#9 "What is, is. A contradiction can not exist in reality. Not in part, nor in whole."

The main thing I love about Terry Goodkind is the underlining themes he has to everything. The story, the setting, the people, the organizations all hold deeper meaning or symbolism. #9 for example touches upon the concept of absolutism.

The 1st rule however I didn't quite understand until recently. How was it that someone would believe a lie when they feared it? Wouldn't they be more prone to deny it? Then I realized the truth in it... at times when a fear rests so close to the listeners heart, the issue is turned and tossed around so much that all that’s required for them to believe in it is the slightest shred of "evidence"

hmmmmmm... ok.... now onto another book... anyone ever read the Animorphs series when they were younger? It’s not bad... perhaps not great... but some of the book are pretty good... recommended reading: The Andalite Chronicles. This is like the best book in the entire series. Anyhow the purpose of this little entry on animorphs. In the series, Prince Seerow with his blind faith in the goodness of others gave technology to a parasite race. This parasite race (the antagonists of this series) then spread all over the universe with the help of the technology. Later, "Seerows Kindness" became a law prohibiting the sharing of technology with alien races. So yes the purpose…. I think it’s such a fitting term to describe the pandemonium affect of blind or Pollyanna kindness, and should become an official term.

Lets hope wikipedia accepts my idea hehehehe... My very 1st wikipedia article!!
